auditions - helpful hints

So, you have found a good casting agent, or you have found a place that lists the nearest
auditions to you, and you are ready to show up, and knock them over with your fabulous
talent! Here are a few helpful hints that you will want to take note of. These hints
will help you whether you have never done an audition in your life, or you are a seasoned
actor. Even seasoned actors forget the simple stuff sometimes!

Helpful Hint #1: If it's a character that you are being asked to audition for, try to create
an entire background story for that character.

Helpful Hint #2: You've already gotten the part. What do I mean by this? I mean to
trust yourself. You've already been asked to show up for this audition, so, you must be
what they are looking for! Have confidence in that. Don't sway from it!

Helpful Hint #3: BREATHE! Always keep in mind that breathing eliminates
nervousness. It is also a huge stress reliever. Shake off the jitters and breathe deeply!
When taking a deep breathe, think about breathing so deeply that it goes all the way
down into your stomach. Allow your breath to expand your stomach out, and then
exhale all of the air out of your lungs. Do this at least three times before starting any
audition. Don't worry, the casting director will be okay with you taking a deep breath.
They know you are probably nervous, and believe it or not, they do take the nervousness
into consideration.

Helpful Hint #4: Most of the time, you will be auditioning on camera. Remember not
to look at the camera while performing your audition. Many times, the directors will
tell you to place your eye line. Don't stray from that. You can look anywhere you want,
but, don't gaze directly into the camera during an audition. Unless, it's one of those
auditions where you are talking directly to the camera. Then, usually, they will direct
you that way.

Helpful Hint #5: Be Present! Stay completely focused during your audition. You want
to be hyper aware of things that are going on around you. You want to have the ability
to take direction. The best way to do this is to stay present, and listen intently to what
the director is asking of you. If you are unsure of the directions, ask questions. It will
be okay to clarify what the director wants out of you. You would rather make sure you
are clear, than go and do something opposite of what they are asking you to do!

Helpful Hint #6: No matter what a star you think you are, always be gracious, friendly
and polite. No matter if you are the most famous person on the planet, if you are
conceded and a pain to work with, you can be replaced! No one wants to work with
someone who is a pain in the neck, and doesn't listen. So, always, always, always be
gracious!
