Budget Cuts Darken ‘Days of Our Lives’

Soap Opera Digest reports that as a result of massive budget cuts, Days of Our Lives stars Deidre Hall (Dr. Marlena Evans) and Drake Hogestyn (John Black) will soon be leaving the cast of the long-running NBC soap. Hall has been on Days for 32 years (!), and Hogestyn is a 22-year veteran. › Continue reading

AFTRA Looks Back, and Ahead

With all of the conflict surrounding SAG–infighting and its struggle to reach a new deal with film and television producers–it’s easy to forget that AFTRA has not exactly had an easy time in 2008. In addition to forging its own primetime broadcast TV deal, it negotiated or extended five other contracts: sound recordings, non-broadcast industrials, ABC and CBS network news, and the interactive agreement (a one-year extension). The primetime contract was particularly difficult, given that onetime ally SAG mounted a campaign, ultimately unsuccesful, to defeat it. › Continue reading
