I know the anxiety one can feel in waiting to get that casting call................... so, you've
finally gotten it, now what? Well, first off, let's get rid of the nerves! I know this
seems easier said than done, but, maybe you need to look at your audition in a different
light!
Rather than thinking that you are going to a casting call, think of it like this..... You just
got a small acting job. Look at your casting call like a small acting job, and you get the
opportunity to go and do your craft, and play! Look at each audition as the opportunity
to do what you love to do! This takes some of the nerves off of it . If you walk into
your audition with the thought of desperation, unfortunately, that reads through your
entire casting call. The director can almost sense desperation. So, just see it as a job,
and you are going to go in and do your best!
That is the first little bit in slam dunking your commercial casting call or audition!
Next, ddon't show up for your casting call and assume you can "Wing It". Always,
always, always show up prepared! Your call back rate will be higher if you know the
script, and know the character! So, be prepared!
Of course saying thank you to the casting director and anyone helping you through
the audition process should go with out saying. However, sometimes we need to be
reminded when we are in the midst of auditioning. Being gracious at your audition and
pleasant is crucial. Even if you don't get this one, you could be invited back. However,
if you aren't polite, you will not have that opportunity at all.
As I said above, learn your script! The worst thing is to rely on a piece of paper, plus,
you want your body to be unencumbered with the script. When you are holding onto
that script, it shows that you are the actor, instead of the actual character you endeavor to
play. Plus, you are wasting time for the casting call director. I've mentioned this before
in other articles, but, this is always a great reminder! Time is money, and it's really
important to be respectful of everyone's time that is involved. Directors hate wasting
money! So, you never want to be associated in the directors mind as someone who
wastes their time.
So, remember to have fun above all! If you enjoy yourself, trust me, the directors will
love you, and they will have fun as well. Bringing light heartedness and fun to the room
will always help you to shine.
Following these simple little reminders should help you nail any casting call you get,
whether it's a Disney casting, a commercial casting, or even a reality TV audition! You
should feel confident to face any director. Feel free to print this article, and put it in
your pocket if you need a little reminder.
